Your Goodman system is showing an error code. Before you panic—this guide explains what the most common codes mean and what to do about them.
If you see error codes 3–5 or multiple blinks, this is serious. Call a licensed technician immediately: (604) 337-5359
How to Read Goodman Error Codes
Goodman systems communicate problems through blinking lights or digital displays. Here’s how to interpret them:
- Blinking pattern: Count the blinks. 1 blink = Code 1, 3 blinks = Code 3, etc.
- Digital display: Error codes appear on your thermostat or control panel as numbers
- LED colors: Red (error), Amber (warning), Green (normal)
Common Goodman Error Codes & What They Mean
| Code | Meaning | Cause | Action |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Blink | Lockout (no flame) | Igniter dead, thermostat issue, no gas | Check gas valve, reset thermostat. If persists, call technician. |
| 2 Blinks | Flame loss | Dirty sensor, low gas pressure, airflow blocked | Check filter, clean vents. Call technician for diagnosis. |
| 3+ Blinks | Serious fault | Safety issue (blockage, sensor failure, gas leak) | CALL TECHNICIAN IMMEDIATELY: (604) 337-5359 |
What You Can Safely Check
Safe to check yourself (do NOT open sealed components):
- Is the system’s filter clogged? (Replace if dirty)
- Is the gas valve turned on? (Check the valve handle)
- Is the circuit breaker tripped? (Reset if needed)
- Are vents and air intakes blocked? (Remove blockages)
- Is the thermostat battery dead? (Replace battery)
DO NOT attempt: Cleaning the flame sensor, adjusting gas pressure, opening refrigerant lines, or repairing electrical components.
When to Call a Licensed Technician
Call immediately if you see:
- Codes 3, 4, 5, or any code above 10
- Multiple error codes (indicates cascading failures)
- Gas smell (leave home and call from outside)
- Water leaking from system
- Sparking or burning smell
- Code repeats after you reset it (more than 2 times)
Maintenance Prevents Most Error Codes
Annual maintenance catches problems early:
- Clean flame sensor (prevents Code 2)
- Check gas pressure and connections
- Test safety switches
- Combustion analysis
- Airflow verification
Cost: $150–$250/year. Prevents $500–$2,000 emergency repairs.
