What Is a TSBC Licensed Gas Contractor?
Technical Safety BC licenses the companies and individuals permitted to install and service gas appliances in the province. A licensed gas contractor employs certified gas fitters, pulls the required permits, and is accountable to provincial safety code. Unlicensed gas work is illegal, dangerous, and can void your insurance.
Why It Matters for Your Home
- Safety: gas work done to code prevents leaks, fire, and carbon-monoxide risk
- Insurance: most home policies require licensed work — unlicensed work can void coverage
- Permits & inspection: licensed contractors pull permits, creating a safety record
- Accountability: licensed contractors answer to TSBC
How to Verify a Gas Contractor’s License
You can confirm any contractor’s standing through Technical Safety BC. We encourage every homeowner to verify credentials before any gas work — and we’re happy to provide ours on request. See our license verification page.

In our service experience, the guidance above holds for most gas equipment in the Lower Mainland — soft water means magnetite sludge and sediment are the real wear factors, not scale. Every system differs; confirm details against your own manual or a licensed technician.
