HVAC Questions, Answered by ROMA Heating & Cooling
Below are the questions Greater Vancouver homeowners ask us most often about heating, cooling, repairs, and service. If your question isn’t here, call us at (604) 704-0300 or book an appointment and a licensed technician can walk you through it.
Service & Scheduling
What areas does ROMA serve? We serve Greater Vancouver, including Burnaby, Vancouver, Surrey, Richmond, Coquitlam, Port Moody, Port Coquitlam, New Westminster, and the North Shore. If you’re unsure whether you’re in our area, just call.
How fast can you come out? We offer prompt service and fast scheduling, seven days a week. When you call, we’ll give you the soonest realistic appointment window rather than an empty promise.
Do you charge for estimates? Estimates on new equipment installations are free. For diagnostic service on an existing system, we use upfront flat-rate pricing so you know the cost before any work begins.
Pricing, Financing & Rebates
How does your pricing work? We quote flat-rate, upfront prices rather than open-ended hourly billing. You approve the price before the work starts, so there are no surprises at the end.
Do you offer financing? Yes. We offer 0% financing on approved credit, which lets many homeowners replace aging equipment without a large lump-sum payment.
Are there rebates available? Often, yes. FortisBC and CleanBC offer rebates on eligible high-efficiency furnaces, boilers, and heat pumps. We help you identify which rebates your equipment may qualify for so you don’t leave money on the table.
Repairs & Maintenance
Should I repair or replace my furnace? As a rule of thumb, if your furnace is past 15 years old, the repair is expensive, and the unit is inefficient, replacement usually makes more sense. Newer or minor issues are typically worth repairing. We’ll give you the honest math for your situation. See our furnace services for more.
How often should I service my heating and cooling system? Once a year per system is the standard recommendation: heating before winter, cooling before summer. Annual maintenance protects efficiency, catches small problems early, and helps keep manufacturer warranties valid.
My system is making a strange noise, what should I do? Turn it off if you smell gas, see smoke, or notice burning odours, and call us. For rattles, squeals, or grinding, it’s best to have a technician diagnose it before continuing to run the unit, since some noises signal a failing part.
Safety & Equipment
Do you handle gas work safely? Yes. ROMA is a TSBC-licensed gas contractor (Gas LGA0202903). All gas, refrigerant, and electrical work is performed by licensed, qualified technicians to BC code.
What brands do you service and install? We work with more than 30 HVAC brands across furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, air conditioners, and water heaters, so we can repair what you have and recommend strong replacement options.
What about carbon monoxide safety? A cracked heat exchanger or poor venting can release carbon monoxide. We check combustion and venting during furnace service, and we strongly recommend a working CO detector on every level of your home.
How long should a new system last? With proper installation and annual maintenance, furnaces typically last 15 to 20 years, boilers can last 20-plus, and heat pumps and AC units commonly run 12 to 15 years. Quality of installation makes a real difference to that lifespan.
