Navien Boiler Error Codes — Complete Reference for Greater Vancouver

Navien boilers and combi units use an “E” error-code system to report faults on the front-panel display. The code tells you which subsystem failed — ignition, flame, combustion, water flow, or the control board — so the fault can be diagnosed quickly. This reference explains the most common Navien error codes, what causes them, and what to do, based on ROMA Heating & Cooling’s day-to-day Navien repairs across the Lower Mainland since 1999.

How to Respond to a Navien Error Code

  1. Note the exact code shown on the display before doing anything.
  2. Check the obvious: confirm the gas is on, the unit has power, and the outdoor vent terminal is clear of snow, ice, or debris.
  3. Reset once using the panel reset button. If the code returns, stop.
  4. Call a technician for any code that returns, or any combustion (E109/E110), overheating (E016/E030), or false-flame (E004) code.

Why Navien Codes Come Back After a Reset

A reset only clears the lockout — it does not repair the cause. If a flame rod is dirty, gas pressure is low, the heat exchanger is scaled, or a vent is partly blocked, the same code will reappear. Our technicians meter gas pressure, inspect combustion and condensate, descale where needed, and replace failed sensors or igniters with genuine Navien parts so the fault is actually resolved.

Navien Models We Diagnose

We service the full Navien lineup found in Greater Vancouver homes, including NCB and NCB-H combi boilers, NHB condensing heating boilers, NFC and NFB fire-tube units, and NPE tankless water heaters.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I clear an error code on my Navien boiler?

Press the reset button on the front panel once. If the same code returns, there is an underlying fault that needs diagnosis — repeated resets will not fix it and can waste gas or stress components.

What is the most common Navien error code?

E003 (ignition failure) and E012 (flame loss) are the codes we see most often in Greater Vancouver, usually from a worn igniter, a dirty flame rod, gas-pressure issues, or condensate blockage.

Are Navien error codes the same on combi and heating boilers?

The core E-series codes are shared across Navien NCB, NHB, NFC and NPE units because they use a common control platform, though some codes are model-specific.

Can I keep using my Navien while it shows an error?

If the unit has locked out it will not run safely until the fault is resolved. Codes pointing to combustion, overheating, or leaks should be addressed right away.

Do you carry genuine Navien parts?

Yes — we repair with genuine Navien OEM parts (igniters, flame rods, sensors, control boards) and stock common items so most repairs are completed in one visit.
