Quick answer: A good heating installation company surveys your home, sizes equipment to its heat loss, plans venting and gas supply, pulls the permit, installs to manufacturer instructions and commissions with combustion testing. ROMA does this for gas furnaces, boilers, water heaters and fireplaces. Free estimates: (604) 704-0300. Gas LGA0202903. Call ROMA at (604) 704-0300 or book a free estimate.

Picking an installation company for a new furnace, boiler, water heater or gas fireplace is a decision you’ll live with for a long time. The equipment matters, but the installation matters more: the same furnace can be quiet, efficient and reliable, or noisy, short-cycling and breakdown-prone, depending on how it went in. ROMA Heating & Cooling is a gas heating installation company serving Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Here’s how we approach an installation, and what you should expect from any company you hire.

A standing safety note: if you smell gas, get everyone out, don’t use switches, and call FortisBC’s emergency line and 911 from outside. If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, or people feel headachy and nauseous indoors, leave and call 911.

How does an installation start?

Call a licensed ROMA gas technician — (604) 704-0300

With a free site survey. We look at the existing equipment and its surroundings, the ductwork or hydronic piping, the venting options, the condensate route, the gas supply and the electrical connection. We ask how the home feels — cold rooms, noisy registers, hot water running out — and what you’d like to change. For furnaces and boilers, we size equipment to your home’s heat loss rather than copying the old unit’s label. Then you receive a written flat-rate quote describing the full job.

What should a quote from an installation company include?

  • The equipment and why it suits your home.
  • Removal and disposal of the old equipment.
  • Venting and condensate work, with the route explained.
  • The gas connection, shutoff and any line changes.
  • Ductwork transitions or hydronic connections and system cleaning.
  • The gas permit, pulled by the contractor.
  • Start-up, combustion testing and a walkthrough of the controls.
  • Optional upgrades listed separately.

Why does sizing matter so much?

An oversized furnace heats the house in short bursts, cycling on and off, which wastes fuel, wears parts and leaves temperatures uneven. An undersized one struggles on the coldest days. Many older homes in the region have had insulation, windows or additions changed since the original furnace was installed, so the old label is often the wrong guide. Measuring the home’s needs is the only way to size well.

What happens on installation day?

  1. We protect floors and access routes, then disconnect and remove the old equipment.
  2. The new unit is set and connected to ductwork or piping.
  3. Venting and condensate drainage go in to manufacturer instructions and code.
  4. Gas is connected with a shutoff and every joint leak-tested.
  5. We fire it up, measure combustion with an analyzer and run every safety check.
  6. We set up the thermostat or controls and show you how everything works.
  7. We help register the warranty and leave you with the installation details.

Who pulls the permit?

We do. Gas installations generally need a permit, and the licensed contractor pulls it. Most of our service area uses Technical Safety BC; the City of Vancouver issues its own gas permits. The permit leads to an inspection or verification that gives you independent confirmation the work meets code.

Do you work with strata buildings and renovations?

Yes. In condos and townhomes, we coordinate strata approvals, elevator bookings and contractor hours, and we check venting rules for the building. On renovations, we work with your builder so gas lines and venting are roughed in before walls close, and the final connection happens when the space is ready.

What about the equipment that’s being replaced?

The old unit tells us a lot. A furnace that short-cycled for years may have been oversized; a boiler that kept locking out may have been fighting sludge in the system; a water heater that rusted early may have been missing anode care. We look at why the old equipment struggled so the new installation doesn’t inherit the same problem. Sometimes the fix is part of the installation — cleaning a hydronic system, correcting return air, rerouting a condensate line — and we include it in the quote so nothing is left to chance.

What happens after the installers leave?

You’ll have the permit details, the equipment’s model and serial numbers, and help registering the warranty. We’ll explain the filter or maintenance needs and suggest a first service date. If anything seems off in the first weeks — an odd noise, a thermostat setting that doesn’t suit you, a drip near the condensate line — call us and we’ll come back and sort it out. An installation company should stand behind its work long after installation day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I look for in a heating installation company?

Look for a Technical Safety BC gas licence, permits pulled by the contractor, sizing based on your home rather than the old unit, a detailed written quote, insurance and a solid review history. Ask how venting and condensate will be handled and whether combustion testing is part of start-up. ROMA meets all of these.

Does ROMA give free estimates for heating installations?

Yes. Installation estimates are free and come with no obligation. A technician visits and surveys your home, recommends properly sized equipment and gives a written flat-rate quote that lists everything included, from permit and removal to venting, gas work and commissioning. Financing is available on approved credit.

How long does a furnace or boiler installation take?

Many straightforward replacements are completed in a day. Jobs involving new venting routes, gas line upgrades, system cleaning, relocations or strata logistics can take longer. ROMA gives you a realistic schedule with the written quote and confirms the full plan with you before installation day.

Does ROMA install in the Fraser Valley as well as Greater Vancouver?

Yes. Along with Greater Vancouver, we install heating equipment in Langley, Aldergrove, Abbotsford and Chilliwack. Fraser Valley homes often have longer gas runs, detached shops and colder snaps, which affect sizing, gas supply planning and condensate routing, and we plan for each of those carefully.
